KUALA LUMPUR: Japan will host the World Badminton Championships for the first time in 41 years in Tokyo in 2022.
They were one of the host nations named for 18 major tournaments over the next seven years by the Badminton World Federation (BWF) president Poul-Erik Hoyer (pic) at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre yesterday.
Spain will host the next world meet in 2021 and followed by Denmark (Copenhagen, 2023) and France (Paris, 2025).
Denmark have been named as the hosts for the next Thomas-Uber Cup Finals in Aarhus in 2020.
With the advance announcements, Hoyer said they could look forward to better quality tournaments.
“It allows all of our hosts to work closely with BWF to ensure the staging of world-class tournaments as we continue to grow the sport globally,” said Hoyer.
“Now they don’t only have one year, but several years to prepare for the events, so undoubtedly the quality will be higher.”
Hoyer said they would finalise the location of several host cities after completing negotiations.
