PETALING JAYA: National shuttler Goh Jin Wei (pic) stayed on track to clinch the Youth Olympics Games gold medal.
The 18-year-old was in a class of her own as she easily brushed aside Vietnam’s Thi Anh Thu Vu 21-12, 21-9 in the quarter-finals in Buenos Aires, Argentina on Wednesday.
Up next is top seed Phittayaporn Chaiwan of Thailand and victory in their last-four clash should keep her title hopes alive.
Jin Wei had earlier checked into the quarter-finals by topping Group C of the preliminary rounds.
She defeated Indonesia’s Maharani Sekar Batari (21-11, 21-15), Sweden’s Ashwathi Pillai (21-15, 21-12) and Ann-Kathrin Spori (21-7, 18-21, 21-9) of Germany.
In the other semi-finals, second seed Wang Zhiyi of China will be expected to overcome Singapore’s Yue Yann Jaslyn Hooi.
