Peng Soon-Liu Ying falter in the Indonesian Open final

PETALING JAYA: Chan Peng Soon-Goh Liu Ying fell short in their bid to become the first Malaysian pair to win the mixed doubles title at the Indonesian Open.

They were no match for Indonesia's Tontowi Ahmad-Liliyana Natsir, losing 17-21, 8-21 to the defending champions in 38 minutes at the Istora Senayan in Jakarta.

It's Peng Soon-Liu Ying 10th defeat to the world No.3 in 11 encounters, including in the final of the 2016 Rio De Janeiro Olympics.

Peng Soon-Liu Ying, playing in their fourth final of the year, were bidding for their third title of the season following their triumphs at the Malaysian Masters in January and the US Open last month. They were runners-up at the Australian Open.

Despite missing out on the Indonesian Open title, it was still nevertheless a good response to their first round exit in the Malaysian Open last week.
