The top two seeded teams had a cakewalk, registering 3-0 wins against Kuala Lumpur and Johor respectively in the semi-finals at the Juara Stadium in Bukit Kiara yesterday.

Penang got their first point through Low Eu Chong who beat Marcus Low 21-12, 21-12, while their second point came through doubles duo Choong Hon Jian-Lee Ming Ze who beat Leong Jun Kai-Tan Kok Xian 21-15, 21-17.

Goh Zi Chyan chalked up a 21-6, 21-18 win over Chan Jun Han in the second singles to send Penang into the final.

Selangor raced to the first point through talisman Aidil Sholeh Ali Sadikin – a member of last year’s World Junior Championships squad – when he beat Wee Yee Liang 21-9, 21-9.

Boys doubles Mohd Nor Firdaus Azman-Wong Zheng Wei then delivered the second point when they defeated Tew Cheng Jie-Yap Shai Kuan 21-15, 21-15 before second singles shuttler Muhammad Shaqeem Eiman Syahyar sealed the victory with a 21-7, 21-17 win over Low Yi Sheng.

Selangor team manager Kamaruddin Ahmad attributed the team’s success to their balanced line-up.

“I’ve told the boys to give their best when they take on Penang in the final tomorrow. We will also come up with the best strategy to try and win the tie,” said Kamaruddin.

“We’ll definitely field our strongest team, though we know that it will not be easy to bring down Penang.”
