PETALING JAYA: There is a possibility the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) will engage the services of former international Tan Boon Heong (pic) for the Thomas Cup Finals.
The 28-year-old shuttler said on Thursday he is available to offer his services.
The independent shuttler is now a free agent after a one-year partnership with Indonesia’s Hendra Setiawan.
Hendra, who is an Olympic champion, will reunite with former partner Mohd Ahsan.
The pair might be fielded for Indonesia in the Thomas Cup Finals.
Badminton Association of Malaysia secretary Datuk Ng Chin Chai did not rule out the possibility of engaging Boon Heong but said they will discuss the matter at the coaching and training committee.
“We’ll discuss it with head coach Cheah Soon Kit. Boon Heong’s availability is good news as we want the best team for the country,” he said.
The Finals will be held in Bangkok, Thailand, from May 20-27.
The qualifiers will take place during the Badminton Asia Team Championships in Alor Setar from Feb 6-11.
