KUALA LUMPUR: SEA Games champion Goh Jin Wei (pic) needs to be more consistent if she harbours hope of winning her second world junior title.
On Saturday, the 17-year-old failed to live up to her top seeding after losing 13-21, 21-10, 19-21 to Ruselli Hartawan of Indonesia in the women’s singles final of the fifth-tier Singapore International Series.
Jin Wei is ranked 43rd in the world while the 19-year-old Ruselli is world No. 106.
Jin Wei’s next tournament is the World Junior Championships in Yogjakarta, Indonesia, from Oct 9-22.
She will be playing in the mixed team competition from Oct 9-14 and the individual competition from Oct 16-22.
Jin Wei did Malaysia proud in 2015 when she defied the odds to become the first world junior champion in the girls’ singles in Lima, Peru.
She, however, failed to defend the crown in Bilbao, Spain, last year.
