KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia’s independent shuttlers enjoyed a good start on the opening day of the World Championships in Scotland.

Yap Rui Chen (pic) of Petaling Badminton Club started the ball rolling when she overcame her nerves to beat Wendy Chen Hsuan-yu of Australia 21-19, 21-11 in 31 minutes at the Emirates Arena in Glasgow.
