Ying Ying to replace Jin Wei for Asia Mixed Teams

PETALING JAYA: The Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) have replaced women’s singles shuttler Goh Jin Wei with Lee Ying Ying for the Asia Mixed Team Championships to be held in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, from Feb 14-19.

The 16-year-old Jin Wei has made an unimpressive start to the year, blaming an ankle injury after crashing out in the second round of the Malaysian Masters in Sibu last week.

And the world No. 31, who irked BAM technical director Morten Frost for not telling the truth about her physical condition, has been cut from the squad.

Ying Ying, 19, has shown good improvement and reached the quarter-finals of the Malaysian Masters before losing to Hong Kong’s Yip Pui Yin.

The world No. 73 will join world No. 59 Ho Yen Mei in the team.

The others in the mixed team are Iskandar Zulkarnain Zainuddin, Lim Chi Wing (men’s singles); Teo Ee Yi-Ong Yew Sin, Goh Sze Fei-Nur Izzuddin Rumsani (men’s doubles); Chow Mei Kuan-Lee Meng Yean, Lim Yin Loo-Yap Cheng Wen (women’s doubles); and Tan Kian Meng-Lai Pei Jing and Goh Soon Huat-Shevon Lai Jemie (mixed doubles).
