GEORGE TOWN: The lack of sparring sessions with team-mates did not deter Goh Jin Wei from helping Bandar Utama BC win their opening Junior Purple League (JPL) 2016 Division One tie.

Featuring in the mixed doubles, the 16-year-old world junior girls’ singles champion partnered Owen Ting Shin Wee to defeat Puchong United BC’s Hoe Shi Yun-Keane Chok 10-11, 11-3, 11-4, 11-8 at the Azman Hashim Sports Arena in USM, Penang. The pair’s win in the fifth and final match of the tie allowed Bandar Utama to clinch a 12-6 victory.
