PETALING JAYA: Petaling Jaya Badminton Club (PJBC) tapped on the wealth of experience of former national shuttlers Mohd Hafiz Hashim and Koo Kien Keat to emphatically thrash the Kajang Badminton Club 15-0 in the Resorts World Genting Purple League.
The 33-year-old Hafiz, who is enjoying a career turnaround in the league, got the ball rolling by beating Mohd Iqram Maula Azman 11-7, 11-7, 11-4 in the first men’s singles tie at the Sports Arena in Taman Sri Sentosa.
Petaling Jaya BC then picked up six more points through Hong Kong shuttler Cheung Ngan Yi (women’s singles) and the Thai-India pairing of Bodin Issara-Prajakta Sawant in mixed doubles.
Former world No. 1 men’s doubles player Kien Keat then partnered Thailand’s Songphon Anugritayawon to beat Nur Ikmal Rumsani-V. Thaneesh 11-4, 11-6, 11-10.
Indonesian shuttler Andre Marteen completed the rout by beating Loh Ze Feng 11-4, 11-3, 11-3.
After losing their first two matches, PJBC have now won three on the trot.
The win also lifted PJBC three rungs up to second place in the 12-team league with 15 points, while Kajang BC remain rooted at the bottom of the table.
