Purple League is Muar City’s to lose

PETALING JAYA: The inaugural Kopiko Purple League title is for Muar City Badminton Club to lose.

Puchong United BC, who are the only side capable of giving runaway leaders Muar a run for their money in the final quarter of the 12-team league competition, went down 14-13 to a Jan O Jorgensen-powered Petaling BC at the Sports Arena Sentosa in Jalan Klang Lama on Saturday.

Puchong kept their second spot in the standings on 46 points – and that’s a whopping 26 points behind Muar, who have 72.

Muar, led by South Korean ace Lee Hyun-il, will take on fourth-placed Kepong BC on Sunday as they seek to further extend their advantage and move a step closer to the title.

A slim victory did little for Petaling as they remained in sixth spot on 10 points.

Meanwhile, rock-bottom Bangsar Hawks continued their remarkable turnaround in the second half of the season by notching their second victory of the season, beating Kajang BC 13-8.
