NSI promises Chong Wei's full fitness

Chong Wei will bid for his first World Championships title in Copenhagen from Aug 25-31

KUALA LUMPUR: World No. 1 Lee Chong Wei will enjoy the best treatment to help him get back on his feet for the two major tournaments – the World Championships in Copenhagen in August and Incheon Asian Games in September.

This is the assurance given by National Sports Institute (NSI) chief operating officer Datuk Dr Ramlan Aziz.

On Friday, Chong Wei pulled out of the Commonwealth Games, to be held in Glasgow from July 23-Aug 4, after aggravating a thigh injury.

“The injury is serious enough to warrant treatment. He is getting the proper assistance from NSI right now,” said Dr Ramlan.

“With his condition now, we should not be setting high expectations on him in any upcoming tournaments.

“It is important for him to go through the treatment and rehabilitation. In the meantime, Chong Wei also needs to maintain his fitness. He will start with light training but we will make sure that he avoids movements around the injured area until he is completely healed.”
