Singapore Open brought forward to April

KUALA LUMPUR: The Singapore Open has been brought forward due to a hectic season in the Badminton World Federation (BWF) calendar this year.

Instead of June, the fifth leg of the Superseries will be held from April 8-13 and it will coincide with the World Junior Championships, which will be hosted in Alor Setar from April 7-18.

The Singapore dates had to be moved because some of the players will be involved in the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow from July 21-Aug 4 and it will be followed by the World Championships from Aug 25-31.

Currently, two legs of the Superseries have been completed - the Korean and Malaysian Opens last month. Fans are now looking forward to the third and fourth legs - the All-England from March 4-9 and the India Open from April 1-6.

Meanwhile, BWF are thrilled to be in partnership with a globally-recognised brand MetLife which promises to lift the profile of this year’s BWF World Superseries by engaging and increasing the fan base.

MetLife’s president for the Asia region, Chris Townsend, who was here recently said: “Fan engagement is a key aspect of the MetLife BWF World Superseries which we have a great desire to encourage and develop.”

“We are working closely with our partners at BWF to develop more fun and interesting ways to drive fan engagement and increase public excitement around the World Superseries. This includes fun public events and bringing fans closer to their favourite badminton stars.”
