KUALA LUMPUR: Training and practice will go on as usual for athletes at different venues but with limited access to the public.
National Sports Council (NSC) director general Datuk Ahmad Shapawi Ismail said it was business as usual at the training centre in Bukit Jalil and other training grounds for national elite and back-up athletes.
Shapawi said they were aware of the advisory from the Sports Commissioner’s office to postpone local and international tournaments following concerns over the Covid-19 outbreak.
“It’s a necessary advice but it’s up to the respective associations to decide. If there are plans to host events, then there has to be stringent preventive measures, ” said Shapawi.
“We will continue with centralised training programmes but it will be more contained and there will be stringent guidelines. There will restricted access to the public too.”
Following a statement issued by the Sports Commissioner’s office on Thursday, several associations and organisations have decided against hosting events, which include national schools meet (MSSM), Malaysian Cub Prix Championships and M-League matches.
