High jumpers hopeful after world champion Mutaz pulls out of Asiad

KUALA LUMPUR: There is good news for national high jumpers Lee Hup Wei and Nauraj Singh Randhawa as world champion Mutaz Essa Barshim of Qatar will not defend his high jump gold in next week’s Asian Games due to an injury.

Mutaz, who won the world title in London last year, damaged his ankle ligaments while competing in the Gyulai Istvan Memorial meet in Hungary last month and will sit out the rest of this season.
