KUALA LUMPUR: Two national records were shattered on the second day of the Malaysian Open athletics championships.

Mohd Irfan Shamsuddin was in his element by improving his one-week old national discus mark by more than 3m with a hurl of 58.04m in the morning session at the National Stadium in Bukit Jalil. The 19-year-old Irfan registered 54.97m at the IAAF Challenge in Melbourne on March 21.
