Archers bow out with heads hung low

THE recurve and compound archers had gone to Philippines Games optimistic of a roaring outing after their impressive performances at the Archery Asia Cup legs in Thailand, Taiwan and the Philippines earlier in the year.

Coach Lee Jae-hyung was optimistic his charges can contend for all 10 finals if they got their acts right. But it turned out his predictions were way off target. Malaysia only managed to reach three finals and it took the men’s compound team of Juwaidi Mazuki, M. Khambeswaran and Zulfadhli Ruslan to save us the blushes with a solitary gold. They also had two silvers and a bronze.
