Songkhla tie ideal warm-up for Turtles ahead of FA Cup quarters

KUALA NERUS: The charity match against Songkhla is seen as the perfect warm-up opportunity for Terengganu to strengthen their line-up ahead of the FA Cup quarter-final clash with Kuching City on Oct 18.

The Turtles head coach Badrul Afzan Razali said his side, invited by the Songkhla Provincial Administrative Organisation, will take on Thai club Songkhla at the Tinshlanonda Stadium today.

He said apart from Songkhla, his players will also face top Thai clubs Buriram United and BG Pathum United.

“This charity or friendly match will serve as an excellent platform for Terengganu to fine-tune their preparations ahead of the crucial FA Cup quarter-finals against Kuching City,” said Badrul.

“That’s why I’ve reminded the players to give their all and treat this as a competitive match – to gain as much knowledge, experience and tactical awareness as possible,” he said.

Despite missing four key players, Badrul, a former Terengganu midfielder, remains confident that his team can secure victory and raise their profile on the international stage.

He said first-choice goalkeeper Suhaimi Husin and defenders Ubaidullah Shamsul Fazili and Azam Azmi Murad missed the trip as they were on national duty with Harimau Malaya for the 2027 Asian Cup qualifiers.

“New import defender Kyaw Min Oo has also returned to Myanmar to join his national team.

“However, I’m confident that the remaining players are capable of delivering a positive result,” he added. — Bernama
