PETALING JAYA: Two penalty strikes from Stuart Wilkin and Sergio Aguero saved the blushes for Malaysia as they managed to overcome 187th ranked Laos 3-1 in an international friendly match in Bangkok tonight (Nov 14).

Both teams found it difficult to initiate a fluid attacking game on the water-logged field conditions due to rain.

Harimau Malaya, who are ranked 133rd in the world, however, were in front thanks to a goal by defender Harith Haiqal Adam Afkar in the sixth minute but the advantage was erased after Kydavone Souvanny scored the equaliser for Laos in the 33rd minute.

Stuart, who came on as a substitute, did not wait long to put Malaysia back in front when he converted the penalty kick in the 64th minute after he was brought down by Sengdaovy Hanthavong.

Aguero then confirmed the victory for Malaysia when he scored from the spot in the 83rd minute after he was fouled by Phoulaung Vinnavong.

The national team will fly to Hyderabad for another friendly against India, the 125th ranked team in the world, on Monday.
