PETALING JAYA: Men’s doubles pair Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik secured an impressive win over Taiwan’s Lee Yang-Wang Chi-lin to check into the Singapore Open quarter-finals on Thursday.
World No. 5 Aaron-Wooi were involved in a 67-minute battle in the second round to down Olympic champions Lee Yang-Chi-lin 21-18, 21-23, 21-17.
They will play world No. 4 Kim Astrup-Anders Skaarup Rasmussen of Denmark in the last eight on Friday.
Astrup-Rasmussen, who won the Malaysian Masters on Sunday, eliminated another Malaysian pair Man Wei Chong-Tee Kai Wun with a 21-10, 20-22, 21-19 win in 62 minutes.
In the mixed doubles, independent pair Tan Kian Meng-Lai Pei Jing crashed out after losing 18-21, 21-18, 10-21 to Robin Tabeling-Selena Piek of Holland in 53 minutes.
