Addressing additive confusion

THE latest miracle #8220;snake oil#8221; that claims to be able to topple PTFE (Teflon-based additives) off the additives throne are the zinc dialkyldithiophosphate based additives, commonly referred to as #8220;zinc#8221; or ZDP. Obviously, manufacturers of ZDP based products claim superiority over the PTFE ones, and vice versa. But are additives really a negative?
