Foreign direct investment sharply higher at RM12bil

PORTFOLIO investment recorded a higher net outflow of RM6.7bil in 2002 (2001: -RM2.5bil). In the first quarter, portfolio investment recorded a net inflow of RM2.9bil (1Q 2001: -RM2.5bil); the subsequent three quarters, however, registered net outflows in line with the prolonged weakening of the global stock market amidst growing economic uncertainties and heightened geopolitical risks.
