MANILA (Reuters) - Asian countries need to increase investment in food production by 50 percent to $120 billion a year to ensure they can afford to feed their large and growing populations, a United Nations' body said on Wednesday.
KULIM: The Government may withdraw subsidies given to highway concession holders that operate on road stretches with alternative toll-free roads, said Works Minister Datuk Shaziman Abu Mansor.
KUALA LUMPUR: To say that Malaysia will go bankrupt by 2019 if subsidies are not withdrawn is a 'terribly dramatic and inappropriate way' to justify the end of subsidies, said an economist and Umno supreme council member.
KLUANG: MCA supports the Government's efforts in reducing subsidy but noted that it should be introduced gradually with savings channelled directly to the lower income group.
KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia will save RM103bil over the next five years if it slashes its subsidy bill now.
