Much to lose despite heli-logging

THE last swathe of pristine forest in Kedah may soon succumb to helicopter logging if a project to harvest timber in the state gets under way. While the immediate economic gains may seem attractive, the environmental cost may just be too much. The Ulu Muda forest reserve which was earmarked for Phase One of the project, is not only rich in flora and fauna, but also serves as a vital water catchment area, providing water for the states of Penang, Perlis and Kedah.
