Minister: Firms with strong unions should be allowed to negotiate salaries than have a set minimum wage
Companies with strong union representation should be allowed to negotiate their salaries instead of having a government-set minimum wage of RM900, Human Resources Minister Datuk Seri Dr Fong Chan Onn said.
The Government hopes the MTUC will not go ahead with its plans to picket if its request for a minimum wage for the private sector is not met, Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak said.
Retrenched workers will be able to get allowances to last them from six months to a year once the proposed Retrenchment Compensation Scheme is finalised.
