It is match day 10 at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil. Here is a preview of the three matches.
France produced a five star performance when they beat Switzerland 5-2 at Arena Fonte Nova while Ecuador beat Honduras 2-1 in the other group E match. In group D, Italy were shocked by Costa Rica 2-1 and the Concacaf side have booked a spot in the second round.
In today’s matchups, Germany is set to face Ghana at Estadio Castelao and the highlight will surely be the clash between the Boateng brothers, Ghana’s Kevin Prince Boateng and Germany's Jerome Boateng. In group F, Argentina will face Asian giants Iran while Nigeria is set to face Bosnia and Herzegovina in the other match.
Germany vs Ghana
Germany got off to a thumping start when Joachim Loew’s side beat Portugal 4-0 in their opening group match. Known for their swift counter-attacks and pressing game, Die Mannschaft will look to continue their winning ways by beating african side Ghana.
Thomas Mueller will play upfront and I expect him to add to his three goals in this tournament. The 24-year-old Bayern Munich forward will be partnered with Mario Gotze and Mesut Ozil up front. The three have looked promising so far and Ghana will have to be on their toes when facing them.
Captain Philip Lahm who is now a defensive midfielder for Germany will also be key and together with Sami Khedira, he will be tasked to stop the likes of Kevin Prince Boateng, Andrew Ayew and Christian Atsu. It will be interesting to watch the Boateng brothers play against each other. Jerome Boateng’s strength against Kevin Prince’s flair will be the one to watch for many purist.
How is the game going to end up? It is going to be a close battle and Ghana will surely find a way to counter Germany’s counter attacking brilliance but at the same time, James Appiah will need to find a way to improve the team’s concentration after Ghana conceded a late goal against United States in their first match.
For neutrals, this is a game you must watch! Germany to beat Ghana 3-1.
Nigeria vs Bosnia and Herzegovina
Hard to predict the outcome of this match. Both teams have talented players and have what it takes to win a match.
Nigeria drew with Iran 0-0 while Bosnia lost against Argentina 2-1 but impressed with their determination and work rate.
Safet Susic will surely demand his players to put in a good shift and win this match to keep their World Cup hopes alive. Miralem Pjanic will be the key player for Bosnia and Susic has also stated that he will start Edin Dzeko and Vedad Ibisevic in attack.
With both of them in attack, Bosnia will surely go in with an attacking approach and it will be interesting to see how the likes of Joseph Yobo and Kenneth Omeruo counter Dzeko and Ibisevic.
Emmanuel Emenike was impressive for Nigeria against Iran and I’m expecting him to impress as the lone man upfront. He will hope for ammunition from the likes of Ahmed Musa and Victor Moses, who on their day, can be real tricksters!
Who will win it? Tough one but I’m going for a Bosnian victory. Bosnia to win a closely fought battle, 3-2.
Argentina vs Iran
This is going to be an one-sided affair and I’m expecting the Iranians to be stubborn in defence. Argentina will go guns blazing for this game and the only thing they will have in their mind is to score as many goals as possible.
Lionel Messi got off to a good start by scoring a beautiful goal and I’m expecting him to be on the score sheet again. The likes of Angel Di Maria, Gonzalo Higuain and Sergio Aguero can be menacing if they click and Iran will have to be wary of their threat.
Iran will be looking at their defence for this tie and their usually creative captain Javed Nekounam will surely fall back to do more defensive duties. Jalal Hosseini, Mehrdad Pooladi, Pejman Montazeri and Amir Hossein Sadeghi who were at their defensive best against Nigeria will hope to continue that momentum and frustrate their opponents.
Messi, Aguero, Di Maria and Higuain will surely run riot and I'm expecting a big scoreline for this game. Argentine to thrash Iran 4-0.
