Guide children on responsible use of smartphones 


RECENTLY, it was reported that the Education Ministry is looking at implementing various measures aimed at enhancing safety in educational institutions, including banning the use of smartphones in schools for students below 16 years of age.

While the intention may be good, such a ban is neither wise nor democratic. In this day and age, information and telecommunication technology is part and parcel of daily life. Students need their phones to stay connected with their parents, guardians and friends, especially in emergencies or when they need support after school hours.
