Urgent action needed to combat drunk driving in Malaysia

A recent crash in Melaka, where a pickup truck, believed to have been driven under the influence of alcohol, ploughed into five vehicles waiting at a traffic light. This tragedy highlights a growing crisis that demands immediate and decisive action from the Transport Minister, Anthony Loke.

It is difficult for the public to further accept repeated incidents caused by drunk or drug-impaired drivers. It is time the Transport Ministry, in collaboration with the Home Ministry, take full responsibility to ensure that the amendments to Act 333 (Road Transport Act 1987) are stringently executed, in particular, Sections 43, 44, and 45.
