I REFER to the letter published on Saturday, “Even the boss is not beyond the bully’s reach” (online at bit.ly/3KfS8Kw).
Many years back, when I was a young graduate, I was hired to head a department in a bank – where all my subordinates were old enough to be my parents. Suffice to say, I was greatly bullied – along with other young managers – by these veteran staff. They would refuse to follow instructions, resist changes to work policies, and sometimes even shout or throw things at us. I recall vividly one of them telling me “Who are you to teach a fish how to swim?” My boss was helpless as the bank union was strong so he just asked me to tolerate it.
