THE current level of fairness and transparency in the recent public university admission process has raised serious concerns, particularly following the release of the 2025/2026 intake results.
In recent years, the “dual track” methods of admission have become increasingly evident. On one hand, students are admitted through the University Central Unit (UPU), based on academic merit. On the other hand, the “open admission channel” (Saluran Terbuka) allows entry by paying higher tuition fees. Such practices risk opening “backdoor” pathways into public universities, turning public resources into profit-making schemes and undermining the aspirations of hardworking students from modest backgrounds.
