WHEN the Primary School Achievement Test (UPSR) and Form 3 exams (PT3) were abolished, the decision was lauded as progressive because it promised to reduce exam pressure on students and encourage a more holistic model of learning.
The intentions were noble, but the results have been far less convincing. Teachers across the country are now reporting that many students are struggling with simple multiplication, division and even basic written communication.
