It’s time to commit to setting up a national climate insurance scheme

DURING the recent heatwave in Europe (from June 23 to July 2), about 2,300 people across 12 major cities died from causes related to heat. Scientists attributed 1,500 of these deaths to climate breakdown, which was found to have pushed temperatures up to 4°C higher in some cities.

In Malaysia, deaths related to heatstroke have become more common over the years. We are now living in a world where the adverse impacts of climate breakdown are no longer occasional inconveniences.
