WE’VE all heard the phrase “behaving like animals”, often used to describe humans who act without compassion or reason. But sadly, we now live in times where some humans behave worse than animals – cruelly, heartlessly and with shocking indifference to the suffering they inflict on helpless creatures.

The recent case of a monkey being spray-painted while caged, as reported in The Star, “Peka: Where’s the monkey?” (May 31; online at bit.ly/star_monkey), has left me deeply shaken and disgusted.
