THE East-West Highway is a marvel of its era, having been built to serve the needs of the government in dealing with security concerns in the north of the peninsula, and to shorten the distance between the northern east and west coast states.
It has served the nation for more than 40 years, but it also has a reputation for being one of the most dangerous roads to drive on due to the hilly terrain, eerie darkness at night, and frequent encounters with wildlife.
