IN 1992, Article 65, “Clerks of Senate and House of Representa-tives”, of the Federal Constitution was amended vide the Constitu-tion (Amendment) Act 1992 (Act A837).

As a result of the amendments, which came into force on Nov 20, 1993, the clerk to the Senate and clerk to the House of Represent-atives must be appointed by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong from among members of the general public service of the Federation, holding office until the age of 65 unless he/she resigned or was transferred to another office in the general public service.
