THE Auditor-General’s report for 2023, revealing that over 1,000 research projects in Malaysia’s top public universities were deemed “unsatisfactory”, raises serious concerns about efficiency in the allocation and management of research grants.
Given that Malaysia’s five research universities collectively received RM285.44mil in fundamental research grants, it is crucial to reassess the monitoring mechanisms, financial oversight and strategic direction of university research.
