THE Malaysian Bar is deeply alarmed and saddened by reports of the alleged assault of prisoners at Taiping Prison, Perak, which tragically resulted in the death of an inmate (“Cops investigating death of Taiping Prison inmate, says Perak police chief”, The Star, Jan 27; online at bit.ly/star_prisoner).
If confirmed, this incident represents a grave violation of human rights and an affront to the principles of justice that our legal system is meant to uphold.
