THE Asian tsunami tragedy on Dec 26, 2004, was the deadliest tsunami of the 21st century, hitting coastlines around the Indian Ocean and causing approximately 275,000 deaths, including those reported missing. Fourteen countries were affected, including Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, and Somalia.

This year marks two decades since the event, which resulted from an undersea earthquake measuring 9.1 on the Richter scale, triggering massive waves up to 30m high.
