Anak Kita could alter lives positively

THE launch of the Anak Kita programme on Sept 27 is, in my view, a highly commendable step taken by the government to tackle the critical issue of school dropouts in Malaysia (“Primary school dropout rate rising in Malaysia”, The Star, Oct 28; online at tinyurl.com/5n6w4e9j). With a generous budget of RM100mil, this initiative seems to reflect genuine commitment to ensuring that every child has access to the education they deserve.

From my perspective, the comprehensive approach of Anak Kita stands out significantly. It does not merely aim to reintegrate students into the system; it seeks to tackle key issues like literacy and numeracy while also preparing students for crucial exams like the SPM. This wide- ranging focus is crucial, as re- enrolment alone is insufficient.
