Changing the law won’t deter litterbugs


I REFER to the recent statement by Housing and Local Government Minister Nga Kor Ming that his ministry is looking into amending the Local Government Act 1976 (Act 171) to provide severe penalties on people caught littering.

“We are not looking to increase fines as people seem indifferent to the current amounts of RM500 or RM1,000,” Nga was quoted as saying.
