Nod to idea for shelters in housing areas

HAVING joined the loud chorus of voices supporting Tengku Permaisuri Selangor Tengku Permaisuri Norashikin, who called for the humane treatment of stray dogs by local authorities, I was extremely relieved after reading the StarMetro report “Councillor: No plans to kill stray dogs” (The Star, April 1).

The furore arose after the Shah Alam City Council (MBSA) announced its plan to “catch and destroy” 500 stray dogs in the areas under its jurisdiction from April 22 to 24. As part of the inhumane exercise, MBSA called for volunteers to catch the dogs, offering RM30 for each animal caught.
