Bleak future for children of permanent residents


IT is sad that the government wants to go ahead with the proposed amendments to citizenship laws pertaining to children of permanent residents, “Retraction appreciated but more can be done, say civil groups” (The Star, March 23).

One of the proposed amendments in the Constitution (Amendment) Bill 2024 that was tabled in Parliament yesterday affects Section 1(a) of Part II of the Second Schedule, which allows children of permanent residents to obtain Malaysian citizenship.
