Means to achieve gender equality in the workforce

Comprehensive solutions needed: Instead of perpetuating traditional gender roles, policies should focus on redistributing childcare responsibilities more equitably between partners and providing affordable and accessible childcare services for all families.

PRIME Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim recently announced that the government was mulling the adoption of flexible or shorter working hours for women in the civil service to enable them to better care for their families.

He said the proposed flexibility might involve working reduced hours with potentially lower pay, but it would enable women to balance familial obligations without completely sacrificing their careers.
