Public must report cases of animal abuse

Abuse in many forms: Some of the current methods used by local authorities to deal with strays, like these dogs that had just been rounded up, constitute animal abuse.

THERE is an alarming rise in cases of animal abuse in the country, according to Penang Veterinary Services Department director Dr Saira Banu Mohamed Rejab.

In Penang alone, the state Veterinary Services Department recorded 82 cases of dog abuse in 2019; 86 in 2020; 98 in 2021; and 253 in 2022, a threefold increase.
