Veterans deserve better

WE celebrated Malaysia Day on Saturday with pomp and pride. As someone who actually witnessed that time 60 years ago, however, I cannot hold back anger and sadness for the way I was treated recently at the National Heart Institute (IJN).

Little Napoleons refused to allow me to see a cardiologist. As a military veteran who has sacrificed much for the country, I was truly devastated. When I volunteered to join the military in the 1960s to fight communist insurgents, I was promised, among other things, free treatment in government hospitals for life.
