SINCE the late 2000s, Malaysia has implemented various measures to tackle climate change at the federal level. The most recent initiative is the National Energy Policy 2022-2040, which was launched in September last year.

Economic mechanisms to advance the country’s climate and environmental initiatives are also outlined in the 12th Malaysia Plan (2021-2025). This includes the adoption of carbon pricing and payments for ecosystem services.
