Update on initiatives to address plastic pollution

WE refer to the report “Eliminating single-use plastics by 2030 seen as an uphill battle” (The Star, March 6; online at https://bit.ly/3yDHSTl).

The Malaysian Plastics Manufacturers Association (MPMA) wishes to point out that the rankings on plastic waste mismanagement from 2015, which was cited in the report, misrepresented the position of South-East Asia and Malaysia. We therefore hope usage of the rankings will cease, especially in view of a follow-up study in 2020 by the same authors that was also funded by the same NGO, the US-based Ocean Conservancy.
