IN 1992, Malaysia won the Thomas Cup for the fifth time. At that time, it had been 25 years since we had last won the coveted trophy of badminton supremacy, in 1967.
The tournament in 1967 was held in the Istora Senayan Stadium in Indonesia, an imposing and intimidating battleground. I was 13 years old then, glued to the valve set radio we had at home, listening avidly to the running commentary on the matches.
