THE call by female political leaders for 30% of women representation in Parliament is fair and justified, “Wanted: More female reps” (The Star, Oct 5; online at https://bit.ly/3e24whL).

In the first Parliament of the Federation of Malaya after the general election on Aug 19, 1959, there were three women lawmakers in the 104-member Dewan Rakyat, which works out to 2.88% female representation.
