Case in Kajang should put local authorities on their guard

A RECENT case in the Kajang magistrate’s court has threatened to open the floodgates to many more lawsuits against local authorities that are guilty of poor maintenance of public facilities.

In this case, a motorist won a suit against the Kajang Municipal Council (MPKj) for damages caused to his car after he drove over a pothole on Jalan Sungei Long in September 2020. MPKj was ordered to pay him a sum of RM2,980 as compensation.
